Paper Feathers

Design your own beautiful feathers from paper. A great chance to flex your imagination and your scissor cutting muscles. Free printable here.

Supplies You’ll Need

• Printout of Paper Feathers PDF
• Colored pencils (or crayons, or markers)
• Scissors
• (optional) Construction Paper or colorful paper

Print out the paper feathers sheet and color however you wish. Be creative! Make feathers with polka dots or stripes. Use crazy colors. Or dive deep and learn about types of birds and what their feathers look like. There’s no wrong way to do it.

(Optional) If you have construction paper or any colorful paper, you can hold the printout to the window and trace the patterns on top of the colorful paper instead of coloring the sheets of paper.

Cut out the paper feathers.

Younger children might need help with this step. Don’t worry if they’re not perfect. You can also color the back side of the paper with the same pattern at this point – if you want to.

Make several parallel cuts close to each other along the sides of the feather. Younger kids might need an adult or older sibling to help with this step. Do your best, but have fun first.

If you don’t have a printer, you can always use construction paper or any colorful paper and cut out a general feather shape.

You can now use your feathers for other art projects. Tape them to a pen to make it look like a quill pen. Turn them into a feather fan or put them on a hat. Or add them to a moonstick.
